Ngala Tented Camp consists of 6 luxury tented suites with outdoor showers, deep baths, overhead fans, air conditioning and electric blankets to keep out the evening chill. Ngala Private Game Reserve, South Africa is a wildlife haven for any and every safari enthusiast. Game drives are offered twice daily during the early morning and late afternoon / evening. Explore an area of 14 700 hectares (36 300 acres) for the ultimate in game viewing. Night game drives are available for that fascinating glimpse into the lives of predators and other nocturnal animals under the stars.

“We’re relaxing with a cold South African Sauvignon Blanc in armchairs on the veranda of the thatched lodge at Ngala.”

There are warthogs digging up the lawn and kudu eating white flowers off to our right but everyone is watching the 24 elephants in the waterhole just in front of us. The big matriarch stands guard while the herd play: there’s water everywhere, with little being swallowed, except by those unruly youngsters who’ve taken over the swimming pool. Clean comfortable rooms, imaginative fresh food, smiling attentive staff, two game drives a day – this is a magical place!

MY FIRST TIME

I had never seen a leopard in the wild and really wanted to see one. Adam, our tracker, really worked hard to find us the most amazing sighting. Phil, our ranger, had such enthusiasm, and really made the chase and the tracking such an experience. It was a most magical safari that will stay with me forever, my African safari. NGALA DINNER BY LIGHT

“After returning from another successful, adrenalin charged evening game drive we settled again into the luxury of our thatched chalet and threw ourselves exhausted onto the sumptuous bed to re–enervate for the evening. Our visual senses satisfied, there was still the anticipation of local taste sensations at the evening meal and, hopefully, tonight ’the &Beyond staff choir’. As we wandered the paths of Ngala toward the main lodge, we were stopped in our tracks by the sight unfolding before us.”

A myriad of lights, a mix of lanterns and candles, dancing, flickering and reflecting from the lodge mirrors, and enticing us into the courtyard (which until now had remained discretely hidden behind huge, rustic doors). We ambled, open mouthed, absorbing the sight, amazed at the creation of yet another ambient visual experience. Dining together that night in the warmth of the lights, in the fresh night air in a courtyard open to the African sky, with the sincere smiles and attention of the friendliest of staff, we enjoyed one of the most romantic of dining experience. Somehow the food tasted even better that night, the wine that much sweeter and the piece de resistance – the pure harmonies of the&Beyond staff choir all came together for us and it became a ‘night of a lifetime’.

Upon return to your lodge accommodation (Ngala Safari Lodge or Ngala Tented Camp), a delicious breakfast will be served. Before a scrumptious spread at lunch, a short walk around the lodge accompanied by a ranger can be enjoyed whereby some of the smaller animals and vegetation in the area can be explored and discovered. Afternoon tea will ensure that you are refreshed and ready for yet another fantastic wildlife viewing experience with a late afternoon / evening game drive. Located within the world renowned Kruger National Park, Ngala Private Game Reserve, South Africa is easily accessed from Johannesburg by air or by road. Flights are available from Johannesburg to Nelspruit or Hoedspruit with a comfortable 2 hour and 45 minute road transfer to Ngala. Air charters to Ngala can be arranged flying directly to Ngala. If flying doesn’t appeal to you a 6 hour road transfer can be arranged on tarred roads from Johannesburg.
